AI1 min read

The Seoul AI Foundation held a youth event called 'AI City Mission' with the Mangwu Youth Center. More than 3,430 people took part in total. Students learned about AI through games, quizzes, and hands-on activities.

What happened

The Seoul AI Foundation and the Mangwu Youth Center ran a hands-on AI event for young people called 'AI City Mission: Save the Future City!' The event was made for students from upper elementary school to high school. It had AI experiences, classes, and shows. A science creator known as 'Exo Ssaem' gave a talk about how AI and robots will change our future. About 300 students and citizens came to the talk.

Key numbers and facts

  • More than 3,430 people took part in total.
  • About 300 people joined the 'AI Ethics Golden Bell' quiz contest, which was held twice.
  • The last 14 players in each round received awards. Winners got the 'AI Ethics Master', 'AI Ethics Excellence', or 'AI Ethics Challenge' prize.
  • An AI drawing contest gave awards to 3 winners.
  • Four free AI zones let visitors try things on the spot without booking.

Activities for students

Students took on the role of 'AI Mission Agents' who work to save the future city. They made AI characters and theme songs, found clues in deepfake videos and fake news, and controlled a four-legged robot and battle robots. They also talked with a humanoid robot to explore future careers. Five youth centers in the northeast of Seoul ran six booths outdoors.

Why it matters

Young people are growing up with AI all around them. This event taught them to spot deepfakes and fake news and to think about privacy and copyright. Kim Man-gi, head of the Seoul AI Foundation, said the group will keep offering more chances for the next generation to use AI easily and responsibly.

What to watch

  • The Seoul AI Foundation plans to offer more youth AI experiences and classes.
  • This event was the first in a series of programs for young people, according to the foundation.

Amazon: AI Ushers in the Era of the "Renaissance Developer"

Amazon says AI is changing how software is written, ushering in an era in which developers can take on many roles rather than specializing in one field. In an internal message to employees, Vice President Terk Terkowitz said AI coding tools and agents are disrupting the software industry and that the company calls this the "era of the Renaissance developer." He also urged employees to embrace change and learn, while Amazon cautioned that token usage and code-change metrics have limitations and should be judged by long-term results.

Adam Mosseri says negativity around AI is ‘going to get worse’

Instagram head Adam Mosseri said in a podcast interview that anxiety, frustration and anger about AI, particularly in creative industries, are growing and will continue to grow over the next couple of years. He said Instagram does not rank AI creators differently but questioned whether AI content is ranked as well as non-AI content, and that Instagram is now requiring AI accounts to label themselves. He also acknowledged concerns including content ownership, model training, safety, and job displacement.

Google struggling to make AI Mode searches pay

Alphabet shares fell nearly 10 percent after the company said AI Mode searches earn less revenue than traditional ads-based search. Google spent $51.4 billion in Q3, mostly on servers and networking equipment, and still needs to rent compute from others to run its cloud. Google has started turning on ads in AI Mode searches worldwide, and it expects to book revenue from TPU sales to third parties in coming quarters.
