Hyundai Confirms Supply Chain for Atlas Humanoid Robot Components

Robotics1 min read

Hyundai Motor Group has confirmed the parts supply chain for its humanoid robot 'Atlas'. The robot is seen as a key future growth engine for the group.

Who will supply Atlas's parts

The supply chain for Atlas, a humanoid robot (a robot shaped like a human), has been set. Hyundai Mobis will supply all of the actuators, which are the parts that make the robot move. Samsung SDI and LG Energy Solution will make the battery, the robot's 'heart'. Hyundai Mobis, Namuga, MCNEX and Camsys will provide the cameras, which act as the robot's 'eyes'. The article says this camera list surprised the industry, because it was not what people expected.

Key facts at a glance

  • Actuators: all supplied by Hyundai Mobis
  • Battery: Samsung SDI and LG Energy Solution
  • Cameras: Hyundai Mobis, Namuga, MCNEX and Camsys
  • Atlas is described as a humanoid robot tied to the 'physical AI' era

What is physical AI?

Physical AI means artificial intelligence that works in the real world through machines like robots. Instead of only answering questions on a screen, it helps machines see, move and act. Humanoid robots like Atlas are one way companies are trying to build this kind of AI.

Why this matters

Hyundai Motor Group sees robots as a new source of growth beyond cars. Who supplies each part shows which companies may earn a place in the future robot business. The surprise in the camera suppliers also shows that the robot market is still taking shape.

What to watch

  • Whether the parts are delivered and tested as planned
  • How the suppliers work together to build the full robot
  • Whether Atlas moves from testing to real use

Humanoid Robots: Which Are Available in Germany and What Do They Cost?

According to the RoboterAtlas database, 49 humanoid robots from 41 companies were listed as of late October 2026, but only seven can be bought directly in Germany and four more via other EU countries. Most listed models target companies, research, or education, and none of the German-available models is aimed at private consumers. Euro prices are typically well above the manufacturers' dollar list prices because of customs duties, VAT, and dealer margins.

Chinese Humanoid Robot Demand Grows in Education and Enterprise, but Domestic Repair and Software Support Remain Challenges

As Chinese-made humanoid robots expand into South Korea, demand is rising from universities, research institutes, vocational high schools, and general companies for R&D, education, and exhibition use. However, the availability of domestic repair technicians and software technical support is limited, and parallel-imported products may depend on the importer's service capabilities. Industry officials stress that buyers should verify maintenance and software support before purchase, not just the product price.
