Woongjin Compass' ClassBox Recruits 5th Cohort of English Writing Instruction Specialists

Software1 min read

Woongjin Compass, an education platform called ClassBox, is opening a fifth class of its English writing teaching expert course for teachers. The course teaches educators how to help students write logical English.

What happened

ClassBox, the education platform of Woongjin Compass, is taking applications for the fifth group of its English writing teaching expert course. The course is for teachers and school owners. The coach is Lee Bo-kyung, head teacher of Diane English Academy in Daechi-dong, Seoul. She will share step-by-step teaching methods and lesson design tips from her own classroom experience.

Key numbers and facts

  • The course has 8 sessions: 6 online and 2 offline.
  • Applications close on November 18.
  • The course closes early if all seats fill up.
  • Students get an official certificate from the Ministry of Education registry, plus an AI essay-correction system license and writing textbooks and workbooks.

Background

Logical writing is becoming more important in English education. The course covers topics such as brainstorming, expanding sentences, linking speaking and writing, the five-paragraph essay structure, and opinion and creative writing. The lessons are designed so teachers can use them right away in academies and small home-based classes. Woongjin Compass also runs Woongjin SAVE1, a tool for managing academy textbooks. Last month, it ran a promotion to help academies and home-based classes make their own custom textbooks.

Why it matters

Many students struggle to write clear arguments in English. This course aims to make teachers better at teaching that skill. Seo Jong-yoon, CEO of Woongjin Compass, said that as English writing education grows in importance, teachers need stronger expert skills. He added that the company will keep expanding programs that teachers can use in real classrooms.

What to watch

  • Whether the seats fill up before the November 18 deadline.
  • How the AI essay-correction tool performs for students and teachers.
  • Whether Woongjin Compass adds more expert courses in future groups.

Microsoft's Canada timezone troubles leave admins fixing calendars, pretending they're in Bogota

Parts of Canada stopped observing seasonal clock changes on November 1, leaving affected areas of British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba on fixed offsets. Microsoft has confirmed problems across several products, including Outlook calendars that must be manually updated, recurring meetings that need recreating, and Power Automate and Fabric workarounds that temporarily use other time zones such as Saskatchewan, Arizona, or Bogota. Fixes for SharePoint On-Prem and Power Pages are due on November 10 and December 12 respectively, and admins have criticized the late guidance.

Chap who coded Google’s Pac-Man clone reveals how the game freaked out Firefox

Designer Marcin Wichary, formerly of Figma, Medium, and Google, says that in 2010 he built the playable Pac-Man logo for Google's 30th anniversary of the game. Google later set it to start automatically after ten idle seconds, but a Firefox extension called CoolPreviews opened the homepage in the background, causing unexpected game sounds. Wichary says he pushed a patch within hours that added a mute button and required a click before the game and its noises started.
