Muse has a voice mode now
AI1 min read
Meta now lets people have voice conversations with their Muse AI agent in real time. The feature is rolling out in the US on the Muse app.
Talking to Muse out loud
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that you can now talk with your Muse AI agent by voice. The Verge's Jay Peters tried it on the iOS app. While you talk, the avatar at the top of the screen moves in time with the words it says. You can change the agent's voice tone by asking for what you want, or by picking from options in the avatar settings.
Key facts
- Voice mode and expressive avatars are rolling out now in the US, on the app.
- Meta says the feature is coming "soon" to its AI glasses.
- It will also work on the Muse Charm gadget, which is supposed to ship this year.
- 10 million people have already set up Muse agents, according to The Verge's related coverage.
What is a Muse agent?
A Muse agent is Meta's AI assistant that you chat with. In a short test, replies came quickly. The agent sometimes paused while it looked up information, as it does in text chat. Peters found the animated avatar a little uncanny. He set his avatar to look like Zuckerberg so he would remember it is a Meta service.
Why it matters
Voice lets people talk to AI more like they talk to a friend, without typing. Meta is also putting this feature into its glasses and a new gadget. That suggests Meta wants Muse to work across many devices. Some people may find lifelike avatars strange, so how people react will matter.
