MetaMetrics and LEDDI Expand Partnership to Strengthen English Literacy in South Korea

Policy1 min read

MetaMetrics, the maker of the Lexile reading measure, and LEDDI Corporation, a Seoul education technology company, have expanded their partnership. LEDDI is now the official exclusive distributor of Lexile Express Tests for reading in South Korea.

What happened

MetaMetrics and LEDDI announced a bigger partnership on November 1, 2026. Under the deal, LEDDI will sell MetaMetrics' computer-based and fixed-form Express Tests in Korea. These tests check how well students read English. LEDDI will also offer tools that measure how hard a text is, so teachers can match students with reading material at the right level.

Key facts

  • The Lexile Framework for Reading is used by more than 40 million students each year.
  • More than 100 million pieces of content have been measured with the Lexile system.
  • LEDDI's platform has more than 4,500 English books, plus AI-based worksheets, reading tests, and class management tools.
  • The platform is aimed at elementary school students and their teachers.

Background

The Lexile Framework gives reading ability and text difficulty a score on the same scale. A Lexile score for a student shows what level of text they can read. A Lexile measure for a book shows how hard it is. Because both use one scale, teachers can match the right book to the right student and track progress over time.

Why it matters

Many Korean students learn English, and parents and teachers want clear proof that reading is improving. With this deal, schools in Korea can use a well-known, research-based system instead of guesswork. MetaMetrics' CEO said that trusted measurement is needed to help English learners build the skills they need to succeed.

What to watch

  • How many Korean schools and teachers start using the Lexile Express Tests through LEDDI.
  • Whether student reading scores rise over time, as the partners plan to monitor.
  • How LEDDI's platform grows beyond elementary school students.

FAQ: Why new fees apply to imports, and what they are meant to achieve

From today, a new two-euro handling fee applies to online orders from non-EU countries such as China or the US that are shipped to EU consumers. The fee is charged per product category and is levied on sellers or importers, such as Shein, Temu or AliExpress, rather than directly on end consumers, though retailers expect some of the cost to be passed on in higher prices. The EU says the fee is meant to curb the flood of low-value parcels and cover the added customs-control costs.

Government Moves to Lower Entry Barriers for AIDC, Easing Criteria Ahead of Subordinate Regulation Notice

The government is reportedly revising the recognition criteria for AI data centers (AIDC) to be considerably looser than the draft enforcement decree first discussed, in response to industry feedback. Under the adjustments, the AI equipment power threshold would fall from 10 MW to 5 MW, and the ratio-based requirements would also be relaxed, with existing data centers partly converted to AI use also able to qualify. The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to gather industry opinions in early next week before issuing the subordinate regulations for public notice.

Openreach, the infrastructure arm of BT Group, has warned customers that the legacy public switched telephone network (PSTN) will be retired on January 31, 2027, and that the deadline will not be postponed. Systems that rely on PSTN, including point-of-sale terminals, fire and security alarms, and personal care alarms, could be disrupted. Openreach has already delayed the deadline once to protect vulnerable customers, and charities and analysts have called for stronger outreach to people who have not yet responded.

Government Expands 'On-AI' Features to Support Web Search and Report Drafting on Work Network

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced it is expanding its 'On-AI' tool so civil servants can use AI on the government work network to search the latest internet information and draft Hangul reports. The ministry's 'AI Web Search,' introduced last month, provides answers that reflect current policy materials and news articles without switching to an external network, and QR codes let users check sources. Starting next month, a pilot of 'On-AI Collaboration' will let AI draft reports from registered materials and templates, which can be edited and shared, and from 2027 AI agents developed by agencies or officials will be shareable across the government.
