The system had no backups, no spare PC, and was maintained by the farmer's 14-year-old grandson, and it lacked a firewall. Jason installed one, made other fixes, got the system working, and was paid promptly, but never heard from the farm again.

Reddit to require login

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman announced that the platform will primarily become usable only with a login, ending nearly two decades of access without an account. The requirement will first be tested outside the US, though the exact locations are not yet clear. Huffman said the move would help personalize content, strengthen advertising and ease regulation, mainly by curbing scraping done by logged-out users.
