iPhone Duo 'Black Market' Prices in Vietnam Run Nearly 20 Million VND Above List
Devices1 min read
Vietnamese shoppers are paying much more than the official price for the new foldable iPhone Duo. Some sellers on the 'black market' are asking 17 to nearly 20 million dong more than the list price.
Resale prices jump above the official price
The iPhone Duo is a foldable phone. Apple opened pre-orders in Vietnam on October 16, but stock sold out within minutes. Because of this, unofficial sellers on Facebook groups and small shops are charging much higher prices. One buyer in Hanoi was offered a 512 GB white-silver model for 90 to 92 million dong. The official price is 71.5 million dong.
Key numbers
- Official list price for the 512 GB model: 71.5 million dong.
- Black-market asking prices: about 16 to 20 million dong above list price, depending on model.
- Resellers who got a pre-order are selling their delivery spot for 13 to 15 million dong extra.
- Vietnam's first wave of deliveries: about 10,000 units, not counting Apple Store Online.
- Pre-order deposit: 30 million dong, instead of 1 million dong for most other iPhones.
Why stock ran out so fast
Demand for the iPhone Duo is high in many countries, not only in Vietnam. More than 70 countries sold out of their first batch within minutes. Apple Store Online now shows delivery dates as far away as January 2027. Some stores said most buyers picked the 256 GB model and the white color.
Why it matters
The story shows how limited supply can push prices far above the official level. Buyers may pay much more than they planned, and they may still have to wait a long time. Deposits are also high, so shoppers need to be careful before they pay.
What to watch
- Whether Apple and Vietnamese stores get more units and shorten the wait.
- Whether black-market prices fall as more phones arrive.
- Whether the deposit refund promise holds when buyers cancel.
- Whether more foldable phone makers enter the Vietnamese market.
