FritzOS 8.50 Now Available for Fritzbox 7530 AX and 5690
Devices1 min read
AVM has released its large FritzOS 8.50 update for two more Fritz!Box routers: the DSL model 7530 AX and the fiber model 5690. The update adds ad and tracker blocking, traffic priority for games and video, and a setup helper for switching from DSL to fiber.
What happened
FritzOS 8.50 is now ready for the Fritz!Box 7530 AX and the Fritz!Box 5690. The 5690 got it in mid-October. Now the DSL model 7530 AX is next. Most features match the 8.50 updates already out for the Fritz!Box 7690 and 5630.
Key facts
- Update: FritzOS 8.50 for the Fritz!Box 7530 AX (new) and 5690 (since mid-October)
- Already available for: Fritz!Box 7690 and 5630
- Ad and tracker blocking uses DNS filter lists on all devices in the home network
- Install through the router's web page at fritz.box or 192.168.178.1
New features explained
The update adds DNS filter lists. DNS is the system that turns web addresses into network addresses. Filtering it can stop ads and trackers before they load. The update also gives automatic priority to important traffic. If a video stream or game is running, the router slows down a download so the stream or game has enough bandwidth, which means the amount of data it can move at once.
Why it matters
The 7530 AX is a DSL router. Its new setup helper makes it easier for DSL customers to switch to fiber with the same provider without buying a new router. They will need an extra fiber modem for this. Owners of these two models can now get the same set of features as other newer Fritz!Box models.
What to watch
