Chess-Playing and Dancing Robots Showcased on Nguyen Hue Walking Street

Robotics2 min read

A green-growth expo in Ho Chi Minh City's Nguyen Hue walking street is showing off humanoid robots that dance, play board games and make drinks. The robots are drawing big crowds.

What happened

The GRECO 2026 expo, the fourth edition of Ho Chi Minh City's green growth products and services show, opened on the evening of October 26 on Nguyen Hue walking street. The event is part of the Autumn Economic Forum 2026 (AEF 2026) and was organized by the city's trade and investment promotion center (ITPC). A robot zone of about 600 square meters shows robots that dance, play games, mix drinks and recognize emotions.

Key numbers and facts

  • The AgiBot Lingxi X2 Youth humanoid robot has 25 to 31 degrees of freedom, which means it can move in many directions.
  • The robot can recognize faces and gestures, reply with sound, and show more than 30 facial expressions on its screen.
  • The robot stands about 1.31 m tall and weighs 35 to 39 kg, depending on the version.
  • It moves at 1.8 m per second and can work for about two hours while walking at 0.5 m per second. Charging takes up to 1.5 hours.
  • The robot-game zone features a Chinese chess robot with 26 difficulty levels and more than 100 endgame positions. Its Go version offers more than 2,000 practice exercises.

Background

The robot zone was set up by the group AICAP, working with AIBrain, AIRobo and the China Developing Robot Industry Alliance (CDRA). More than 30 top Chinese robot and AI companies and research institutes take part. SenseTime's professional robots play Go, chess and Chinese chess, and visitors can try to beat them.

Why it matters

The expo shows how robots are moving from factories into public spaces, such as entertainment, shops, schools and tourism. It also shows how AI can help people practice skills, such as strategy games, while they have fun.

What to watch

  • Whether the robots are sold or used in real services such as tourism, education and customer help.
  • How the green growth products shown at the expo are used by businesses in Ho Chi Minh City.
  • Whether more Chinese robot companies bring similar shows to Vietnam.
