Apple Upgrades iMac and 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 Chip
Devices2 min read
Apple has updated its 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac with a new M6 chip. The new chip is faster, and the prices stay the same as the M5 models.
What happened
Apple launched new 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac computers for 2026. Both now use the M6 chip, a processor that acts as the computer's brain. The designs and color choices stay the same. The day before, Apple had launched an iPad mini with an OLED screen. OLED is a screen type that makes colors bright and deep.
Key numbers and facts
- The M6 is Apple's first chip made with a 2-nanometer process. This packs more transistors (tiny switches) into the chip and saves energy.
- The M6 has two super cores, four performance cores and six efficiency cores. Apple says it has the fastest single-core speed in the world.
- Multi-core speed is 1.2 times faster than the M5. AI graphics power is up to 30% higher.
- The MacBook Pro starts at about 55 million VND, or 52.25 million VND for students and teachers. The starting model now has a 1 TB SSD instead of 512 GB.
- The iMac starts at about 42 million VND. The iMac's battery-free design is not relevant here; the iMac has two Thunderbolt 4 ports and supports Wi-Fi 7.
Why the iMac jump is big
The old iMac used the M4 chip. Going straight to the M6 is a big step. Apple says the new iMac has twice the graphics speed and five times the on-device AI speed of the last model. Its SSD also reads and writes data twice as fast as the late 2024 version, thanks to PCIe 5.0 support.
Why it matters
The new chips give users more speed for graphics and AI tasks without a price increase. The MacBook Pro also gets up to 24 hours of battery life, which is about the same as the MacBook Air. Still, the iMac has no Thunderbolt 5 ports, so buyers who need the newest connection will have to look elsewhere. Apple has not said when the computers will go on sale in Vietnam.
What to watch
- When the new MacBook Pro and iMac go on sale in Vietnam.
- Real-world tests of the M6 speed and battery life.
- Whether Apple changes prices again after its June price increase on the M5 models.
