Apple set an iPhone sales record even without a new standard iPhone

Devices1 min read

Apple said its iPhone sales hit a record in its latest quarter, even though it did not release a standard iPhone model in its newest lineup. The news came in Apple's fourth-quarter earnings report.

Apple sells more iPhones than ever

Apple reported that it earned $57.58 billion from iPhones in the fourth quarter. That is a 17 percent jump from the same time last year. The growth came after Apple launched the iPhone 18 lineup in September. That lineup included a more expensive iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Apple also raised prices on its older models at the same time.

Key numbers

  • Total Apple revenue: $114.5 billion, up 12 percent
  • iPhone revenue: $57.58 billion, up 17 percent
  • Mac revenue: $10.79 billion, up 24 percent
  • Services revenue (App Store, Apple TV, Apple Music and more): $31.57 billion
  • iPad revenue: $6.23 billion, down 10 percent

Why prices and supply are a problem

Many device makers are facing supply chain limits, which means it is hard to get all the parts they need. Memory chips also cost more now. Because of this, Apple has raised prices across its products. Apple's first folding phone, the iPhone Duo, was shown at the same time. Only a limited number were in stores at launch, and some shipping dates stretch into 2027. Its preorder sales are not counted in this report.

Why it matters

The record shows that people still want iPhones, even without a brand-new standard model. It also shows that Apple can earn more by charging higher prices. Rising memory costs, however, could make it harder for Apple to keep profits high in the future.

What to watch

  • How many people buy the iPhone Duo once more units are available
  • When Apple can make enough iPhone Duos to meet demand
  • Whether memory costs keep rising and push prices higher
  • How well Apple's new smart home products and touchscreen MacBook Pro sell

Apple says it’s ‘hard to predict’ when iPhone Duo constraints will improve

During its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings call, Apple COO Sabih Khan acknowledged shipping delays for the iPhone Duo but said it is "really hard to predict" when supply and demand will be in balance. Customers who did not pre-order immediately are now facing ship times stretching into next year, and Apple has raised prices on several products amid rising memory chip costs driven by AI demand.
