Apple is ‘not able to predict’ when it’ll have enough iPhone Duos to go around
Devices1 min read
Apple says it cannot yet say when it will have enough iPhone Duo foldable phones for everyone who wants one. The company's CEO, John Ternus, gave this update in an interview with Reuters and on an earnings call.
Apple cannot say when supply will catch up
Apple CEO John Ternus says the company is working hard to get the iPhone Duo to customers quickly. But he said Apple is not able to predict when supply and demand will be in balance. Preorders sold out fast, and some shipments are expected to arrive in 2027. Ternus also said Apple is replacing a very small number of Duos that were returned because of cracked screens.
Key facts
- The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable phone. It launched last month for $1,999.
- The phone has a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner screen.
- Apple reported record iPhone revenue of $57.58 billion in its fourth quarter.
- Ternus expects "even higher memory costs" in Apple's December quarter.
Why parts and memory are expensive
Apple has faced supply chain problems, which means trouble getting the parts it needs to build products. It has also faced rising memory costs. Memory is the chip that stores information in a device. These problems led Apple to raise prices across its product line, including higher starting prices for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Why it matters
The iPhone Duo is a big test for Apple, because foldable phones are new for the company. Long waits and cracked-screen returns could make some buyers wait or think twice. At the same time, Apple still sold a record number of iPhones even without a new standard iPhone model this year.
What to watch
- Whether Apple shortens the wait times for the iPhone Duo.
- How many cracked-screen returns Apple reports and how it handles them.
- How rising memory costs affect Apple's prices in the December quarter.
