Apple is adding an AI chatbot to Pages, Keynote, and Numbers

Software1 min read

Apple is adding an AI helper to its Pages, Keynote, and Numbers apps. The helper can write, design, and organize work for you, and it also updates its creative apps.

What happened

Apple is bringing an AI assistant to its office apps: Keynote (slides), Pages (documents), and Numbers (spreadsheets). The assistant uses AI models from Apple and OpenAI. It can read a document and understand what it is about, so it can help with tasks. Apple also lets outside AI agents (helper programs made by other companies) plug into these apps. The assistant is in beta, which means an early test version. It works on newer Apple devices that support Apple Intelligence, Apple's AI system.

Key facts

  • The assistant works on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or macOS 27 or later.
  • Keynote, Pages, and Numbers support the Model Context Protocol (a standard way for AI helpers to connect to apps) on macOS 27 or later.
  • Pixelmator Pro gets Generate Fill, which edits part of a picture when you describe the change.
  • Existing Creator's Studio subscribers get the updates for free in November.

Other app updates

Apple is also updating its creative apps. Logic Pro gets a new Liquid Glass look (Apple's new design style) and an AI assistant that can set up a vocal track from one prompt. Final Cut Pro gets new templates and titles, plus a built-in library of stock videos, photos, and backgrounds called Content Hub.

Why it matters

This shows how Apple wants AI to be part of everyday work tools, not just a separate chatbot. Users could write, design, and analyze data with help from AI inside the apps they already use. Letting other companies' AI helpers join the apps also gives people more choice.

What to watch

  • Whether the beta assistant works well once more people test it.
  • How well the AI helpers from other companies connect to the apps.
  • Whether the free November update for subscribers arrives on time.

FreeBSD founder ports Omarchy to FreeBSD in ten days, ten releases

Daemonarchy, an independent project unaffiliated with the Linux-based Omarchy, brings Omarchy's Wayland desktop to FreeBSD. Led by FreeBSD co-founder Jordan Hubbard, it collects FreeBSD ports of Omarchy's tools into an installable ISO and has reached version 1.3.1 after 10 releases in about 10 days. The project reportedly uses LLM coding assistants, which could complicate FreeBSD's debate over AI contributions.

Viettel's Tammi App Reaches 20 Million Users in Three Months

Viettel Telecom says its communications and digital utilities platform Tammi has reached 20 million users about three months after its official launch, with 10% of users coming from other mobile carriers. The app requires registration with a verified mobile subscription, and its DAU/MAU ratio was nearly 30% in October. The company says it aims to build a digital connection platform, not just another messaging app, as it shifts from a telco to a techco.

IBM admits mainframes need to be modernized and will use AI to do the job

IBM acknowledged that its Z mainframes can drift toward hard-to-manage complexity that reduces resilience, and said it plans an AI-native tool called IBM Z Atlas to help. According to a Statement of Direction, Z Atlas would map a client's z/OS stack, test and validate changes, and reduce manual work such as patch management, while IBM says it will keep human review and decision authority in place.
