Anthropic Cuts Junior Staff as AI Drives More Meetings
AI1 min read
Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude chatbot, says AI has changed how its staff are hired and how they work. It now has fewer junior workers and more meetings.
What happened
Anthropic published a report saying its team structure and work habits have changed a lot since it started using AI. The company says this may show how AI will change jobs, hiring and work across the whole economy. Fewer new, entry-level workers are being hired, and more work is done with AI tools like Claude.
Key numbers
- Junior staff in the tech team fell from 21% to 14% since early 2025.
- Hiring of junior staff dropped sharply, from 27% to 9%.
- Tech staff fell from 61% to 56% of the company.
- Average meeting time per employee rose 20% from last year. Tech specialists rose 16%.
- Over 90% of Anthropic's code is written by Claude Code, according to CFO Krishna Rao.
Why the company is changing
Anthropic says the drop in junior staff comes from normal growth of business teams as the company gets bigger. It also says coding tools let non-technical staff build their own software. Workers now spend more time checking and guiding AI output than doing every task by hand.
Why it matters
This is one of the first close looks at how an AI company runs itself day to day. If AI keeps replacing entry-level tasks, new workers may find it harder to get started. The company also found a new problem: working with many AI agents can feel lonely, so teams now hold lunch coding sessions and hackathons to get people talking face to face.
What to watch
- Whether junior hiring stays low at Anthropic and other tech companies.
- Whether more code means better code, which Anthropic says it has not yet proven.
- How teams balance AI speed with human trust and teamwork.
