Overview
The authors evaluate GPT-6-Astra on robotic manipulation and navigation across 12 benchmarks, using a unified protocol that allows in-context learning from training demonstrations and more execution steps. They also test a harness that pairs GPT-6-Astra as a high-level reasoner with π0.5 as a low-level controller, run experiments on 8 real robot configurations, and prototype a new benchmark with no in-domain demonstrations and a world clock that keeps running during deliberation.
Introduction
Robotics has long relied on specialized models built for individual tasks and embodiments. This report asks what the competence of a single general model implies for the field and where it still falls short.
Results
GPT-6-Astra achieves unprecedented performance across the 12 benchmarks under the unified in-context learning protocol. Real-world tests on 8 robot configurations, however, reveal gaps in the cost of collecting demonstrations and in the trade-off between longer execution and higher success rates.
Conclusion
GPT-6-Astra has largely crossed the threshold of embodied competence but not yet that of practical embodied intelligence, which matters for deciding what the field should build next.
