Vietnamese Company Earns ISO Certification for Its UAV Production System

Drones1 min read

CT UAV, a Vietnamese drone maker, has earned an ISO 9001:2015 certificate for its quality management across its drone production system. This shows its management processes meet the standard, but it does not prove that individual drones are safe or flight-ready.

A Vietnamese drone maker earns an ISO certificate

CT UAV, a member of CT Group, received ISO 9001:2015 certification from the international certifier URS. The certificate covers the whole drone production system, from making parts to testing, assembling, repairing and maintaining drones.

Key facts

  • Standard: ISO 9001:2015, a quality management standard.
  • Scope: materials, mechanical parts, circuit boards, batteries, chargers, flight controllers, remote controls, design, prototype testing, assembly, repair and maintenance.
  • CT Group was founded in 1992 and began UAV research in 2016.
  • The company has 5 factories at the CT Group Hi-Tech tech park in Binh Hoa ward, Ho Chi Minh City.
  • The CT Pegas 230 cargo drone has a maximum takeoff weight of 230 kg and can carry 100 kg. It flew a successful test in September.

What ISO 9001 means

ISO 9001 is an international standard from the International Organization for Standardization. It sets rules for how a company manages quality: standard steps, checking work, finding and fixing mistakes, tracking quality and always improving. It is a certificate for the company's system, not a stamp of approval for each product.

Why it matters

The certificate is a first step for CT UAV as it tries to compete in global markets. The company says it wants its drones to be as good as those from leading industrial countries. Drone makers in Vietnam are also getting government support, since UAVs are on the government's list of strategic technology products to develop.

What to watch

  • Whether CT UAV gets product-level safety or aviation certificates, which ISO 9001 does not give.
  • Commercial launch of its strategic products, which Vietnam targets for 2026.
  • Progress of the Fire Swarm firefighting drone system and the 500 kg drone project.

Lawson and Post Offices to Become "Drone Bases"; Starlink to Provide Connectivity as KDDI Rapidly Builds Drone Infrastructure

KDDI Smart Drone said at the KDDI SUMMIT 2026 event on October 28 that it plans to deploy drones nationwide, using post office rooftops and Lawson store grounds as drone ports for logistics, community monitoring, infrastructure inspection, and disaster response. The company aims to use Starlink for direct drone communication, achieving a flight demonstration in May 2026 and targeting service launch in 2027. KDDI currently operates drone ports at 33 locations and has signed a basic agreement with Japan Post covering about 24,000 post offices.

Billion-dollar opportunity in low-altitude aircraft and the challenge of commercialization

Experts say low-altitude economy, especially UAVs, has great potential but needs a more complete legal framework, greater domestic technology, and commercialization of pilot projects. Speaking at a forum during AEF 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City, a representative of the Vietnam Space and Aeronautics Association said the global UAV services market could reach US$128 billion by 2030 and Vietnam's could reach US$10 billion by 2035. Officials cite a 2045 target of contributing 1.5% of GDP, with localization above 85%.
