Trump is making it easier for fossil fuel companies to leak methane

The Trump administration is expected to announce plans to weaken EPA rules that curb methane leaks from oil and gas operations, reversing Biden-era standards meant to cut methane emissions by 80 percent over 14 years. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin says the rollbacks would save companies $45 billion, while the previous rules would have cost $18 billion. Health and environmental advocates have strongly criticized the move, noting that methane is a potent greenhouse gas that accounts for about 30 percent of global warming so far.
