Top 10: The Best City and Trekking E-Bike – Best Value Winner at €899

Mobility1 min read

A German tech site tested more than 60 city e-bikes and named its top 10. The focus was on equipment and value for money.

What happened

A German review site tested about 60 city e-bikes. It looked at what each bike comes with and whether it is worth the price. It then made a list of the ten best electric bikes (called pedelecs) for riding in town. The headline also names a best-value winner for 899 euros, which is part of the list.

Key numbers

  • About 60 city e-bikes were tested.
  • The list shows the top 10.
  • The value-for-money winner costs 899 euros.

What is a pedelec?

A pedelec is a bike with an electric motor. The motor only helps when you pedal. A city e-bike is made for everyday rides on roads and paths in town. A trekking e-bike is made for longer trips and rougher ground.

Why it matters

Many people want an electric bike but do not want to overpay. A test like this helps buyers compare features and prices side by side. A good-value bike can give a lot of help for less money.

What to watch

  • Check the full test to see the score for each bike.
  • Compare the features of the top 10 with your own needs, such as distance and hills.
  • Look at prices again before you buy, since they can change.

Rivian’s autonomy gamble faces its first real test

On an hourlong earnings call, Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe spent more time promoting the company's autonomous driving ambitions than the production ramp of its R2 SUV. The next two years will test whether Rivian can become a full-stack autonomy player, with a point-to-point hands-free driving feature rolling out to employees in 2026, customers in 2027, and robotaxis with Uber in 2028. Rivian faces a costly challenge against Tesla, which has a large head start, while still building its mass-market R2 at scale.

Waymo’s next robotaxi is a purpose-built Toyota bZ4X

Waymo says its robotaxi service in Tokyo, planned for 2027, will use Toyota bZ4X electric vehicles assembled in Japan at Toyota's Takaoka plant. Waymo's self-driving sensors and computers will be installed on the assembly line as each car is made, rather than retrofitted later, which could cut labor, custom parts, and shipping costs. Testing in Japan begins next year, followed by rollouts to the United Kingdom and other international markets.
