Tencent launches Hy4 with vision and computer-use capabilities

AI2 min read

Tencent has launched Hy4, a new version of its main AI model that can understand pictures and charts and use computer programs much like a person would. The company is making it available in its own apps and on outside platforms.

What happened

On November 4, Tencent launched Hy4. The update gives its flagship AI model the ability to look at images and to operate computer tools. The model can read charts and documents, compare several images at once, and use command-line tools (text-based controls for computers) and graphical interfaces (the buttons and windows you click on screen).

Key numbers and facts

  • The model has 770 billion parameters (the internal settings that help an AI learn and make decisions).
  • Standard API price: $0.834 per million input tokens and $2.501 per million output tokens.
  • A 50% discount applies on Tencent Cloud TokenHub until December 31.
  • Free usage quota in WorkBuddy and CodeBuddy runs from November 4 to November 15.
  • Tencent plans to release the model weights (the saved learned settings) and a system card (a document explaining how the model works and its limits) soon.

Some background

Hy4 is an AI model, which is a computer program trained on huge amounts of data to answer questions and complete tasks. Tencent trained Hy4 for specific jobs, such as working with Blender (a 3D design tool) and CAD software (programs engineers use to design objects). It was also trained on tasks that use several programs at once. The company plans a cheaper version called Hy4 flash.

Why it matters

This shows that AI models are moving beyond chat. They can now look at pictures and use software on their own, which can save people time on office work, money analysis and game making. Because Tencent plans to share the weights, developers outside the company may be able to study and build on the model.

What to watch

  • Whether the planned release of the model weights and system card happens soon.
  • When the cheaper Hy4 flash model comes out and how much it costs.
  • How well Hy4 performs on real office, finance and game development work.
  • Whether the discounts and free quotas lead to wider use after they end.

ByteDance reportedly tightens access to Claude and Codex, even for employees paying out of pocket

According to recent reports, ByteDance has since early this month restricted employees from using personally purchased accounts for third-party AI tools such as Claude and Codex to access internal resources, covering all L4-level code repositories and Feishu documents. ByteDance vice president of technology Hong Dingkun said the move is driven mainly by data security concerns, and denied that it aims to force employees onto the company's own products. The restrictions are being rolled out in phases and are expected to affect thousands of technical employees.

GitHub Releases "Copilot Fusion" Generally Available, Selecting the Best AI Model for Each Task to Balance Performance and Cost

GitHub announced the general availability of GitHub Copilot Fusion at GitHub Universe 2026, a multi-model feature that uses one or more AI models depending on each task's characteristics. It offers three patterns, Single, Cascade, and Critique, along with load levels (Standard, High, Max, and Fast) to balance quality, cost, and latency. A public preview also lets users run tasks locally on Fusion Standard with MAI Code 1.1 Flash or Qwen3.8 Flash Next.

Google to Turn Off AI Features for School Students by Default; Critics Say Google Search Without AI Can't Be Chosen

Google announced on November 3 (local time) that AI features, including Gemini and Google Search, will be off by default for K-12 student accounts until school administrators explicitly enable them. However, AI features built into Google Search cannot be disabled on their own, so schools that opt out of AI would also lose access to Google Search, drawing criticism. According to the New York Times, the change is expected to take effect in early 2027.
