Seoul AI Hub to support AI startups at each growth stage with venture capital firms

AI2 min read

Seoul AI Hub, a Seoul city support center for AI startups, signed investment deals with nine venture capital firms. The goal is to help promising AI startups raise money at each stage of growth.

What happened

Seoul AI Hub held an 'IR Day' event. IR means 'investor relations,' which is when a company presents itself to investors. At the event, the hub signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs, or non-binding agreements to work together) with nine investment firms. These firms manage funds backed by Seoul city and Seocho district. The two sides plan to find promising AI companies together, review investment chances, connect startups with investors, and run accelerator programs that help young companies grow fast.

Key numbers

  • 9 investment firms signed MOUs with Seoul AI Hub.
  • 16 companies presented at IR Day: 10 from the hub's support program and 6 from a global AI program.
  • Since April this year, the '2026 Investment Connection Support Program' has supported 10 AI startups.
  • The program included 7 early-stage companies seeking seed funding and 3 growth-stage companies at the pre-Series A to Series A stage.
  • Eight investment firms joined a roundtable investor meetup after the presentations.

Background

Startups often find it hard to get money in their first years. Seed funding is the first outside money a young company receives. Series A is a later round, usually for companies that already have a product and some customers. Seoul AI Hub helps startups prepare for these talks. Its help includes investment strategy, business model review, polishing investor documents, and mentoring from investment experts. The hub is also planning a new 'Baby Unicorn Center.' A unicorn is a startup worth more than 1 billion dollars, so a 'baby unicorn' is a company on its way there. The center will combine office space, funding, infrastructure, talent, and sales channels, working with the Korea Angel Investment Association.

Why it matters

AI is one of the most competitive fields in the world, and young AI companies need large amounts of money to grow. By linking startups directly with private investors, the city hopes to build a stronger local AI industry. The roundtable meetings let founders and investment experts talk face to face about next steps. This could lead to more funding and business partnerships for Seoul's AI startups.

What to watch

  • Whether the MOUs lead to actual investments in AI startups.
  • Progress on the Baby Unicorn Center and where it will be located.
  • How many startups from the current program raise new funding rounds.
  • Whether the partnership with the Korea Angel Investment Association starts delivering support.

Meta AI director Rohit Patel leaves to take on Microsoft Office and Google Workspace

Rohit Patel, a former director at Meta Superintelligence Labs who spent eight years developing AI at Meta, has left the company to launch Ndoc, an AI-native alternative to Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. Ndoc combines presentations, analyses, and datasets with Python scripts in one workspace that colleagues can use even without an account. Patel's departure follows several other high-profile exits from Meta, and the startup is a three-person team with no funding.
