A photo report from day two of the Smart City Expo World Congress 2026 (SCEWC 2026) in Barcelona, Spain. Visitors tried a smart city car driving simulation at the Madrid booth.

What happened

On the second day of SCEWC 2026, held on the 4th (local time) at the Fira Gran Via exhibition center in Barcelona, Spain, visitors at the Madrid booth tried a smart city car simulation. A smart city is a city that uses digital technology and data to run traffic, energy and services more efficiently.

About the event

SCEWC is a large trade show and conference about smart cities. Companies, cities and governments show new tools and ideas there. This photo shows one of the hands-on displays where people can try the technology themselves.

Why it matters

Simulations let people see how future city traffic might work before it is built. They also show how cities and companies test new ideas in a safe, virtual way.

The firm describes the moves as unwinding a roughly 20-year expansion that built multiple businesses across geographies and created unintended hierarchy. The changes place renewed emphasis on the Bay Area and come as European founders and investors face the loss of a local Sequoia presence.

Tech Odyssey Series: From Portugal to China, a New Conversation Begins

The season finale of TechNode's Tech Odyssey series looks at possible future technology cooperation between Portugal and China, featuring AICEP, Portugal's trade and investment agency and the series' co-producer. AICEP Shanghai director Luís Costa says the series aims to show Portuguese technology companies, which are less visible than the country's wine and food industries, and to help them consider China as an export market. The article also notes that Portuguese startups tend to think internationally from an early stage.
