KTR gives first clean cosmetics certificates
KTR is the Korea Testing & Research Institute for chemicals and convergence technology. At the 2026 Osong Cosmetics & Beauty Industry Expo, it held a certificate ceremony. Eight cosmetics companies received certificates for 14 products. The certificates follow a new group standard that KTR created. It is the first such standard made by a Korean testing institute.
Key facts
- 8 companies and 14 products certified
- The standard is named SPS-M KTR 0002-7670:2025
- Certified products include body wash, shampoo, lotion, cream, toner, foam cleanser and shampoo bar
- KTR also showed its clean cosmetics tests, such as ingredient effect tests, ingredient quality tests and skin penetration tests
What is a group standard?
A group standard is a set of rules made by an organization or group, not by the government. Under this standard, KTR certifies cosmetics that cut down harmful substances for people and the environment. These products also use eco-friendly containers.
Why it matters
KTR says the standard sets a quality bar for clean cosmetics and can help build trust in Korean "K-clean beauty." KTR also plans to grow its services so Korean cosmetics makers can respond early to strict global environmental rules.
