Baseus’ new security camera has a spotlight that tracks and follows moving targets

Devices1 min read

Baseus has launched a new AI security camera, the U2 Pro. Its motorized spotlight follows people or things that move across a yard, so they know they have been seen.

A camera that talks back with light

Baseus, a maker of gadgets, has added a new camera to its line of AI-assisted security cameras. Most home cameras only record and send alerts. This one tries to stop trouble before it starts. A motorized spotlight shines right on a moving person, so that person knows they were spotted.

Key facts

  • Price: $269.99 in the US, sold through Amazon
  • Price in Europe: €269.99, sales start October 15
  • Two 3K cameras: one fixed camera watches one area, and one moving camera can zoom, tilt, and pan 360 degrees
  • Storage: 512GB encrypted memory card, recording only when motion is seen
  • Battery: lasts up to 150 days, though heavy activity can shorten this

How it works

The camera uses AI to sort what it sees. It can tell people, pets, vehicles, and delivered packages apart. It also skips useless motion, like tree branches moving in the wind. Full-color night vision helps you see details, such as the color of a car, in the dark. You can check footage in Baseus's phone app, or see live views on Amazon Alexa or Google Home devices. Baseus says it takes about two minutes to install.

Why it matters

Home cameras are common, but many people only look at footage after something has happened. A camera that scares off unwanted visitors in real time could make homes feel safer. The bright light can also help with video quality in the dark, which may make it easier to identify a person later.

What to watch

  • Whether the spotlight really stops intruders, not just shows them they were seen
  • How well the AI avoids false alerts in real homes
  • How the European launch on October 15 goes
  • How long the battery lasts with lots of activity

Scott Walker’s The Drift will get under your skin

Terrence O'Brien, The Verge's weekend editor, reviews Scott Walker's 2006 album The Drift as one of the most genuinely terrifying Spooky Season records. He describes its dark lyrics on death, disease, and tragedy and its unsettling experimental soundscape. The review argues the album is challenging but rewarding, and that it makes the skin crawl rather than offering shivers.

Mobile Coverage Costs in Mountainous Areas Are Double Those in the Lowlands

Viettel Sơn La says building mobile infrastructure in the province's mountainous areas costs about 100% more than in the lowlands, due to rugged terrain, scattered populations and limited transport, power and transmission. The company plans 246 new BTS base stations in 2026 and aims to cover 100% of signal dead zones in the province this month, and has asked the Ministry of Science and Technology to allow use of the public telecom fund.
