Aldi Talk launches postpaid tariffs with smartphone financing

Policy1 min read

Aldi Talk, the discount phone brand from Aldi, now sells post-paid mobile plans. Customers can also buy Samsung or Apple phones and pay for them in monthly parts.

Aldi starts contract-style phone plans

Aldi has added post-paid plans to its mobile offer. Until now, Aldi and rivals like Lidl and Netto mainly sold prepaid plans, where you pay first. With the new Flex plans, you pay later, at the end of each month. For the first time, you can also combine these plans with Samsung and Apple phones. Before, phones were only sold for a one-time price.

Key facts and prices

  • Two Flex plans: 75 GB or 150 GB of data per month, for 14.99 euros or 19.99 euros.
  • Plans run on the Telefónica 5G network and include an all-you-can-use call and text flat rate.
  • Plans can be cancelled monthly.
  • Phones can be paid in one go or in 24 monthly payments of 25 euros, added to the plan.
  • Over 24 months, the phones cost 600 euros in total.

What is post-paid?

Post-paid means you use the service first and pay for it afterward. Prepaid means you pay in advance and use up the credit or data you bought. Post-paid plans often come with a monthly bill and a contract. Here, the Flex plans can be cancelled each month, so they are more flexible.

Why it matters

This gives Aldi customers a new way to get a phone and a plan together, without paying the full price at once. Buyers should still compare prices first. Some online shops sell the same phones for more than 600 euros, but the regular Samsung model is already much cheaper elsewhere. Aldi also offers its own prepaid plan, the L tariff, with 100 GB for 19.99 euros every four weeks.

What to watch

  • Whether the phone deals stay competitive after the offer period.
  • Whether other discounters, such as Lidl or Netto, add similar post-paid plans.
  • Starter sets for the Flex plans are sold in Aldi stores, but phones are only sold online and in the Aldi Talk app for existing customers.

Tech is about to get hammered in Congress

After Democrats won majorities in both the House and Senate, they are expected to take control of congressional committees in January and pursue investigations and hearings targeting tech. Lawmakers have floated testimony under oath from AI company CEOs, tougher AI and data center guardrails, and probes of Elon Musk's DOGE role and alleged conflicts of interest. Democrats have already used their minority positions to build records on the Trump administration and to question major tech companies about data center nondisclosure agreements.

Docomo suffers nationwide network outage, making calls and data hard to use

NTT Docomo announced around midday on November 5, 2026 that mobile voice calls, data communication, and SMS were hard to use across Japan, affecting MVNO services that run on Docomo's network. The company said it was still confirming the start time and the impact on emergency calls, and would provide updates and a recovery estimate later. A correction later clarified that only Docomo "5G SA" subscribers were affected, and that earlier the same morning Docomo had halted its online shop and My docomo services over possible unauthorized external access.
